Here’s the new cover for Tales of the Phoenix: The Second Collection, which will be published in September.
Like most of the anthologies, the cover looks better in print. It has the covers for the included stories (Haunted, Sold, and Claimed) on the back cover. (And yes, this means I’m working on Marked.)
There’s only a pre-order link at Amazon so far, because I’ve been working on the print edition. I’ll get the other links up soon and share them then.
September 20 is the day.
As promised, I’ve been working on print editions of The Phoenix. Some of you like having the individual novellas available on their own, and Createspace offers a perfect format for this. These are 4″ x 6.5″ paperbacks, which is just a little smaller than mass market size. They’re so cute!
The cover is taller and narrower than the digital book cover, so I’ve used a feather background on them all.
These editions will only be available from Amazon and Createspace. It’s not a size that can be put into distribution, but the larger anthologies and collections are available in wider distribution. (More about that next week.)
The cute little books are just heading into the Amazon distribution channel. You can see them on Createspace already:
(which also includes Revealed)
One of the things that’s been happening behind the scenes this month is that I’ve been publishing the print editions of my books through Ingrams. They’re still available from Createspace and Amazon, but I’m told that other booksellers and libraries prefer to order from Ingrams.
This should mean that you can get the books more easily from other booksellers.
For example, my books are now being listed for sale on the Chapters Indigo website, which is the big bookseller in Canada. The links are still populating, so the cover image isn’t there yet (these things take time) but here are Indigo links for
The Plume: The First Anthology
The Plume: The Second Anthology
The Plume: The Complete Collection
The Wedding Anthology
Tales from the Phoenix: The First Collection and The Plume: The Third Anthology should appear on the site soon.
This also means that you can ask for the print edition to be ordered by your local library or your local bookseller. 🙂
I’m in the midst of setting up the print edition for Tales from The Phoenix: The First Collection (which will include Revealed, Harnessed and Hunted) and had a look at the numbers for my print books. I believe in making books available as widely as possible, so had chosen the option of having extended distribution—that means making the books available for sale beyond Amazon. This meant that the price had to be higher, to allow enough margin for everyone along the way to get a piece of the action and still leave some for me.
Well, it turns out that none of you are buying print copies anywhere other than Amazon. How about that! This might be because Amazon tends to discount books, so you get a better price there. It might be that you just like shopping at Amazon. Or it might be that those other portals aren’t listing my books for sale, even though they have the option of doing so.
The end result is that I’ve just made the print editions of ALL of my books exclusive to Amazon. This makes a big difference in the US price and some difference in the UK price. (I’m not sure why but it changes very little for the EU price. Maybe costs are higher there.) The Plume Anthologies, for example, are now all list-priced at $9.99US and £7.99 in the UK.
I wasn’t happy with the pricing on my individual stories when they’re published in trade paperback, and it doesn’t look as if you’re very happy with it either. When the books are distributed everywhere, there has to be margin in the price for every step to make some profit and the price ends up being higher. These are only selling at Amazon, though, so I’ve changed the distribution: the individual stories are now available only from Amazon or Createspace, which means the price is lower.
The list price has dropped from $6.99US to $3.99US for Revealed and from $7.99US to $4.99 US on Hunted, Haunted, The Best Man, Always a Bridesmaid and Forever Bound. You’ll see a similar drop in Europe and the UK—the UK price for the majority of these is £3.49 and the EU price is 4.99 euros. (Revealed is a little cheaper yet.)
It’s clear that many of you prefer the anthologies in print, so I’ll get back with my designer to finalize a cover for the first Phoenix anthology. Maybe taking a break from it will have given us a fresh view! 🙂
