I’m in the midst of changing the distribution of my books. Instead of using Smashwords to deliver my books to Apple and Kobo, I’m uploading them directly to those stores. That means I’ll have better control over pricing – being able to set it by territory, for example – faster uploads and changes, and also more timely reporting. The only downside is that the books will lose their existing reviews. 😦 On both of these portals, reviews don’t transfer between editions of a book.
Some of my books have a lot of reviews (especially at Apple). I find reviews helpful when I’m trying to decide what to read next. So, my compromise is to publish the new editions through both portals but leave the old editions there for a while. I’m hoping that you (and others) will leave reviews on the new editions.
How will you know the difference between old and new editions? Well, you could look at the publisher name. The new editions will be published by Circe Books. (That’s me!) I’m also updating the links here on the site as the new editions go live. Or you could look at the price. The new editions are cheaper than the ones that will be going away.
